Bayog Public Market razed to fire
Fire broke in the peaceful Sunday evening at Bayog Municipal Public Market around 11:40PM on March 18, 2018. Fire volunteers together with the Municipal Risk Reduction & Management Office (MDRRMO) personnel and some nearby residents in the site immediately responded in putting off the flames.
The fire burned into ashes temporary structures and consumed some areas of the market, like the dried fish and vegetable section, carenderia, rice retailers and other sari-sari stores.
Heavy equipment was brought later to tear down the structures so firefighters can reach the hot spots and were able to stop it before it spread to the rest of the buildings.
After an hours-long fight against the flames, the firefighter managed to get full containment around the fire and successfully defended other structures at around 1:00AM. Investigation disclosed that there was no known cause of fire and its origin.
There were 57 stalls totally damaged, 4 stalls partially damaged and a total of 38 storeowners. All fire victims received cash assistance from Bayog LGU.- Bernadine A. Gabawan, Municipal Information Officer
