“BAYOG, drug-free municipality” - PDEA
Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur - Bayog was declared as drug-cleared municipality with drug free barangays by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) R9. This was formalized in a simple ceremony held at Glupa Gulian Agro-Tourism Eco Park on June 11, 2018 together with other related agencies: Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Army, Department of Health (DOH), and the Provincial Government of Zamboanga del Sur.
Bayog is the first in the entire Zamboanga Peninsula declared as drug-free. The said activity was witnessed by the local officials, LGU department heads and key officials, barangay officials of the 28 barangays of this town, some personnel of PNP and Philippine Army and other personalities from NGAs and CSOs.
After the declaration, Laurefel P. Gabales, Regional Director-PDEA 9 challenged the municipal officials headed by Mayor Leonardo L. Babasa, Jr. to be vigilant at all times to sustain the parameters set forth by the Dangerous Drugs Board (DOB) in order to maintain the drug-free status.
Meanwhile, Mayor Leonardo L. Babasa, Jr. accepted the challenge of Dir. Gabales in his pledge of commitment and vowed to carry on with what is set by the PDEA. - Bernadine A. Gabawan, Municipal Information Officer
